CROSSING WORLDS HOPI PROJECTS, since 1999, conducts service projects on Hopi Indian lands in support of cultural continuance, self-reliance, self-esteem, self-empowerment and maintaining life (some are listed below). Projects evolve every year as we respond to Hopi advisors’ identification of needs.
All of us are volunteers – there are no paid staff.
HOPI PEOPLE maintain their Hopi language, culture and values with roots going back thousands of years. Core values for Hopi people include working together, respect, gratitude, prayer, giving and sharing. The Hopis manage to grow corn in the high desert without irrigation. Corn is life and proof of their faith, endurance and prayers.
They face economic challenges of living on a remote Indian reservation far from the resources of urban America.
SOME OF OUR PROJECTS
Annual winter food and gift project for Hopi families in several villages. Includes youth learning aides, Hopi artist supplies, elderly toiletries.
We support Hopi Foster Care youth with purchasing folding beds, duffle bags, hygiene and school supplies. A few years ago we purchased 12 pieces of playground equipment for the 4 Hopi Head Start schools.
Hopi permaculture orchard-garden projects to increase local healthy food supply & train Hopi youth.
Support for Hopi based-initiatives which are working to restore Hopi traditional farming and healthy diet, economic sustainability, home repair, education, land stewardship, and cultural continuance.
Provide supplies for traditional activities.
Connecting Hopi people with resources, resource people that support their sustainability.
Cross-cultural learning:
++ Hopi presentations in Sedona area.
++ Coordinate with the Verde Valley Archaeology Center on field programs for Hopi youth and adults to learn about their ancestral sites in this area.
Blessings of this Winter Solstice and Holiday Season to you.
